Passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at his home at the age of 86 years. The son of the late Rudolph and Mary Scherzer was born October 8, 1939, in Saginaw, MI. He graduated from St. Charles High School, class of 1958. Rudy farmed his whole life while also working at Hemlock Semiconductor, retiring in 1997 after 28 years of service. Rudy was a lifelong member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Hemlock where he held various offices and where he met the love of his life, Carol. Rudy and Carol were married at St. Johns Lutheran Church on May 7, 1960. Rudy was a member of the International Harvester Club and the International Watch Fob Association. Rudy was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing as well. After retiring from farming he enjoyed making his rounds and checking on all the neighbors daily.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Carol; one brother Michael and his wife Janet Scherzer. Three children: Brian (Mary) Scherzer, Julie (Ron) Roggow, and Connie Scherzer; three grandchildren: Amanda Scherzer, Zachary (Courtney) Roggow, Nicholas (Gabie) Roggow, and three great-grandchildren, Gemma and Leland Roggow and Oliver Roggow.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother Rudolph and Mary, one daughter Denise Lynn, and his father and mother-in-law, Jacob and Katherine Kildow.
Visitation will take place from 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 N. Miller Rd., Saginaw, MI 48609. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 23, 2026 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 2290 Pretzer Rd, Hemlock, MI 48626. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service. Rev. Philip Loescher will officiate with burial to take place at St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery.
To honor Rudy, the family requests that you please wear a plaid or flannel shirt.
