Lois Marlene Finian

Lois Marlene Brink Finian left this earthly world Thursday, June 20, 2024, during a lightning storm at Covenant Cooper Saginaw. She was born January 29, 1937, at home in Akron, Michigan. Her parents were Alfred and Alice (Cartwright) Brink. Lois was predeceased by three older brothers, Deane, Duane, and Damon, and a sister Sharon. She graduated from Akron High School, class of 1955, as salutatorian. Lois attended Central Michigan University and began teaching in Saginaw at the original Plainfield School. She met a handsome young man, Felix J. Finian, and fell in love. They were married June 7, 1958. They had one daughter, Kerry Beth. Felix passed away December 9, 2014.

Lois continued teaching young children at Humpty Dumpty Co-operative Preschool for 23 years, meeting many families along the way. She later worked for Saginaw Public Schools as a librarian at Handley and Chester Miller Elementary Schools. Lois was a member of Ames United Methodist Church for many years. She served on committees working at Fish Frys, Vacation Bible School, and playing in the bell choir. She also attended Kingston United Methodist Church and recently Aldersgate Cardinal Square.

She was a busy lady: reading, knitting, quilting, cross stitching, and talking. Lois loved talking and visiting with everyone; friends and strangers. A real people person. Lois enjoyed holidays, especially Thanksgiving, preferring the leftovers on Friday. She enjoyed square dancing with Felix back in the day and snowmobiling in the northern woods. She also loved spending time at the farm out near Kingston/Caro area watching the deer. Lois was a member of National Farm and Garden, loved antiques and formerly had a booth at the Antique Warehouse. She was also a member of the Women's Stock Club for many years.

Lois leaves her daughter, Kerry Beth and son in law Gary Thormeier, her beloved grandchildren: Whitney (Greg) Witkowski, Saginaw, Dr. Noah Thormeier, Spring Lake, and Tyler (Trista) Thormeier, Bay City; beloved great-grandchildren: Phoebe, Cooper, and Lucy Marlene Thormeier, Everett and Eliza Witkowski, and baby Thormeier due in the fall. She also leaves many good friends and kind neighbors.

Thank you to the nurses and staff at Covenant Cooper during her recent stay. The family requests those wishing to honor her memory to enjoy a good book or strike up a conversation with a total stranger. We miss and love you.
