Freda "Didi" Capistrano Hewitt-Dalton

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on August 26, 2025 at MyMichigan Medical Center at the age of 82 years. Didi was born on June 19, 1943, in Salay Misamis Oriental Philippines to the late Ma. Beeching Mo Capistrano and Conrado Salvaña Capistrano Sr. Didi moved to the United States in her early 20s with her sister to pursue nursing at the University of Philadelphia. She then moved to Cass City, MI, where she married Ervie Hewitt on May 14, 1977. They then moved to Saginaw where they started a business, Tow Line Trailers. Ervie predeceased her on October 3, 2003. Didi married Dave Dalton; he predeceased her on April 20, 2023.

Didi was a world traveler, fishing in Alaska, traveling to Europe, Hawaii, across the US and across the world. She also enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, her grandchildren, and was very involved in her church, First Baptist Church of Bridgeport. Her greatest joy was not found in activities alone but in people. Didi was a very giving and loving person who had a spark that lit up the lives of everyone lucky enough to meet her. She built genuine, deep and lasting relationships with all her family and friends. Didi was also very wise and was often utilized as a source of knowledge and advice, always encouraging others to do what is right.

Didi is survived by her children: Alfred (Elaina) Hewitt and Anne (Ryan) Keller; daughter-in-law Amanda Hewitt; special stepsons from the Dalton family that she treasured; grandchildren: Dominic, Leona, and Isla; siblings, multiple in laws, many nephews, nieces, and extended family, all of which she had a special relationship with, as well as many lifelong friends who are like family.

Along with her husbands and parents, Didi was predeceased by her son, Aaron Hewitt, siblings, and in laws.
