William Mattes

William "Bill" J. Mattes, 83, of Gladwin, Michigan passed away March 15, 2024. Born in Saginaw, Michigan; Bill attended S. S. Peter and Paul, and was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and Knights of Columbus in Gladwin. He worked at Dow Corning, Midland, Michigan as a chemical engineer and electrician for thirty-three years. He was a faithful servant of the Lord, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Anyone who knew Bill Mattes knew his love for hunting, fishing, gardening, and polka dancing! Willing to help anyone in need, he was a jack of all trades; could fix anything! He was a real life MacGyver who could build a shopping mall out of a Q-Tip!

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon Mattes (Griffith); parents, William A. Mattes and Lucile A. Mattes (Hart); sisters, Margaret Shripka and husband Al Shripka, and Lucile McInerney. He is survived by his wife of 27 years Jacque Lott Mattes; children, Michelle Mattes Roney, William P. Mattes (Lorri), Thomas P. Knapp (Maryane), and Jacque Leigh Revard (Andrew); grandchildren, William Andrew Mattes (Ivette), Matthew Allen Mattes, Grace Lee Roney, Jakob Roney, Thomas Peter Knapp, Brady Patrick Knapp, Kaelyn Olivia Knapp, Tiffany Chislea, David Richard Chislea, and Makenzy Ryese Chislea; great grandchildren, Gabriela Marie Mattes and William Alejandro Mattes. Siblings, Joan Pepper (Dale), Jean Mielke (Herb), Mary Chislea (Richard), Judy Thrall (Steve), Joe Mattes, Cathi Mattes, Gerard Mattes (Nancy), Richard McInerney; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family will host a Celebration of Life at Serenity Funeral Home in Largo, Florida on March 27, 2024. The visitation/viewing will be held at 3pm with a service at 4pm followed by a family dinner. Additionally, a visitation/viewing will be held in Saginaw, Michigan, on April 3, 2024, at W.L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 North Miller Rd, Saginaw, MI 48609, from 4pm-8pm. The Rosary will begin at 7:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Dominic Parish, St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1310 Malzahn St, Saginaw, MI 48602, at 10:00 am on April 4th, with viewing one hour prior. Rev. Fr. Richard John will officiate with interment to follow at St. Andrew Cemetery in Saginaw, Michigan.
