William “Bill” Edward Hickey, age 78, of Merrill, Michigan, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024.

Son of the late Daniel and Sopha Hickey (Allerding), Bill was born in Lake Odessa, Michigan in 1946. After graduating from Lake Odessa High School in 1964, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, where he earned two Purple Hearts and a distinguished Silver Star.

After returning to the states, Bill worked for General Motors in Grand Rapids as a Machine Repair Lead for 33.5 years. He retired in 1997 and moved to Florida for seven years with his wife, Pam. In 2004, he and Pam moved back to Michigan and started a Llama farm in Merrill. Bill enjoyed woodworking and watching football, especially U of M. His constant TV companions were his cats and Diet Coke. 

Bill is survived by his loving wife and companion of 35 years, Pamela Jean Hickey (Harriman); four children: Sandra (Hal) Humi, Daniel (Jennifer) Hickey, Ellen Heinitz, Shanna Hickey; stepson: Erik (Susan) Harriman; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters: Patricia (Tom) Curran, Mary (Bill) Sutton; brother: Mike Hickey. He is preceded in death by his brother: Jim Hickey and sister-in-law: Nancy Hickey.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. Burial of cremated remains with honors will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan at a later date.
