Wanda Beatrice Poscal

Merrill, Michigan

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023. At the age of 93 years.

She was born in Elwell, Michigan on October 1, 1930 to Clarence and Marvel (DeGraw) Crittenden and delivered by her grandmother, Maude Crittenden. Wanda’s family moved several times during her childhood and settled in Midland, Michigan where she graduated from Midland High School in 1949. Wanda married Joseph A. Poscal on February 18, 1950. The wedding was held at St. Bridgid Catholic Church, which is now the Bradley House. After being a city girl, she moved with Joe to their farm in Mt. Haley Township. Wanda dedicated herself to country life and was very involved in raising her family and supporting their interests. She was a 4-H leader and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Wanda helped with many church dinners, the most important to her were the funeral dinners. She was an excellent cook, which led to a catering business with her friend and sister-in-law, Arlene Varner.

Wanda enjoyed camping with family and friends, and trips to Alpena to visit family. She met many friends while attending aqua-cise class in Midland. Wanda and Joe rarely missed a sporting event involving their children and grandchildren. They were honored to be named “Super Fans” of Breckenridge High School Basketball. She also enjoyed watching the Pistons and Tigers. A special joy for Wanda was living next door to Larry and Arlene, and raising their children together.

Surviving her are children Judy and Richard Bluemer, Bonnie and Dan Mueller, Dawn Poscal, grandchildren Kelly (Pat) Netzley, Courtney (Mike) Schiller, Ashley (Derek) Painter, Mitchell (Kelsey) Poscal, Jeff (Cassie) Mueller, Brandon (Ashley) Mueller, great-grandchildren Reilie, Easton, Brielle, Ava, Ames, Wren, Jaxen, Tegan, Cashton, Sage, sisters-in-law Alice Crittenden, Barb Crittenden, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Joe, and her parents and step-father, Herschel Johns, Wanda was preceded in death by her son Roger Poscal, brothers Bruce (Hazel) Crittenden, Jack Crittenden, infant sister Sandra, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Lucille (Dorson) Butler, Hazel (Walter) Berlin, Arlene (Lawrence) Varner.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Arbor Grove Assisted Living & Memory Care, and My Michigan Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Wanda.

In accordance with Wanda’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial Service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 125 E Saginaw St, Merrill, MI 48637. Rev. Fr. Michael F. Steltenkamp, S.J. will officiate with a private family committal service to follow at St. Patrick Cemetery.
