Virginia M. Swieczkowski (Favor)

Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Thursday, December 16, 2021 at the age of 91 years.

Virginia Marie Schettenhelm was born January 26, 1930 in Dearborn to the late Frederick and Marie (Goetz) Schettenhelm. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School. She married Francis (Pat) Swieczkowski in 1949; he predeceased her in 1977. She later married Donald Favor in 1984 and he predeceased her in 2013.

Virginia was a proud and energetic farm girl all her life. A devout Catholic, she was a founding member of St. Sabina Catholic Church and for 64 years was regularly involved in the Ladies Guild, parish fish fries, bingos and festivals. She was also a Lunch Mom for the parish school.

Ginny was an avid card player, particularly pinochle and bridge, and enjoyed the sometimes profitable trip to the casino. She loved the Detroit professional sports teams even when as she said "they stink". In the fall, she was also often heard to shout out "Go Green!"

Many hours were spent with family and friends at Camp Dearborn, snowmobiling in the Copemish area and on cruises in the Caribbean. She also enjoyed bowling and golfing. Ginny was an avid gardener and for years she spent the late summer and fall months canning fruits and vegetables from her garden and orchard.

Surviving are three daughters and two sons, Suzanne Floyd, Timothy (Julie) Swieczkowski, Karl Swieczkowski, Anna (Dominic) Roe, and Lisa Serrano; nine grandchildren, Melanie (Ray) Paryaski, Mark (Lisa) Floyd, Win (Carrie) Swieczkowski, Sarah Swieczkowski, Aaron, Evan and Austin Swieczkowski, Danielle Delorey and Eric (Jessie) Birk; eight great-grandchildren, Garrett, Kylie, Alex, Mallory, Adabelle, Hannah, Ada and Travis. She also leaves one sister and two brothers, Agnes Dikeman, Fred Schettenhelm and Bill Schettenhelm; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at St. Sabina Catholic Church, 25555 Ann Arbor Trail, Dearborn Heights. Rev. James Lopez will officiate with burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 20, 2021 at the L. J. Griffin Funeral Home, 7707 Middlebelt Rd., Westland. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Sabina Catholic Church or Marion Hill Missionaries.
