Violet “Peggy” Elaine Lockhart of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Sunday, September 29, 2024. She was 6 days shy of her 100th birthday. Violet Elaine Heaslip was born on October 5, 1924, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Earl and Lena (Wager) Heaslip. She attended Saginaw Public Schools and was a proud graduate of Saginaw High School. She married the love of her life, Daniel J. Lockhart, on November 17, 1941; he preceded her in death on January 29, 1989. The most influential role of her lifetime was to be a loving and dedicated homemaker. Being able to stay at home afforded her create loving, selfless, and extraordinary relationships with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Violet was a longtime and faithful member of Ascension Lutheran Church. She civically served her community by volunteering her time with the Temple Theater’s Pipe Organ Fund and as an auxiliary member of the American Legion. Violet was a great cook, but a priceless and profound baker notably famous for her delicious pies, fudge, and pastries. Over the years, she and Daniel enjoyed spending time camping, as well as showing old cars. She enjoyed taking bus trips, selling baked goods, and to stay busy and have fun. Violet was a beautiful soul who will forever be remembered for selflessly putting others before herself, for being able to embody love without judgement, for being kind and compassionate, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.
Surviving are two daughters: Sherry Lee Czapp of Saginaw; Carolyn Violet (Jake) Reittenbach of Saginaw; nine grandchildren: Denise (Steve) Ayotte; Kimberly Voelker; Holly (Jim) Martin; Kristopher Reittenbach and his fiancée, Samantha Stadler; Adam Reittenbach; Danielle Gedraitis and her partner, Jeff Dunbar; Jake Reittenbach and his fiancée, Kristina McClain; Rick (Donna) Czapp; Chris Czapp; honorary grandson, Randy Weaver; five great-grandchildren; Austin Ayotte; Addyson Reittenbach; Harper Reittenbach; Alyvia Dunbar; Bristol Dunbar; three great-great-grandchildren: Paisley Ayotte; Makenna Ayotte; Brantley Ayotte. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel J. Lockhart; two daughters, Diana (Chuck) Reed; Peggy (Mike) Voelker; a grandson, Mark Nalyewko, a son-in-law, Dick Czapp; parents, Earl and Lena Heaslip; two sisters, Lucy (John) Tolfree; Mary (Jake) Haner.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Violet’s special grandson, Adam Reittenbach, and her niece, Sharon Wilsee, and for all the love and care they provided to Violet, as well as the entire family.
A private funeral was held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Chapel Hill Mausoleum & Cemetery. Pastor Julie Bailey officiated.
