Shirley Jane Erskine

Shirley Jane (Hoggard) Erskine passed away peacefully on October 1,2023, just over a week beyond her 85^th birthday.  Shirley was born in Midland, MI on September 19, 1938 to Helen (Rutledge) and Floyd Hoggard.   Shirley graduated from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw in 1956 and pursued her desire to help others by attending Saginaw General Hospital nurses training, finishing with her RN degree in 1959.  On a beautiful fall day, October 7, 1961, she married Morley, her husband of nearly 62 years. She worked as a nurse at Valley OB-GYN in Saginaw for nearly 40 years. In her free time, Shirley loved to bake. She made cookies, bread, cakes, and amazing Christmas cookies and candy with her good friend, Carol. She also loved to watch sports, especially the Detroit Tigers and Michigan Football and Basketball. Every day for decades you could spot Shirley walking the streets of Hemlock on a four-mile loop. After retirement, Shirley volunteered with Hospice, continuing her legacy of giving.

Besides her husband, Morley, Shirley is survived by two children and their spouses, Pamela Williams (Mark) and Scott Erskine (Natalie); nine grandchildren, Mason, Megan, Brendan, Ellie, Jack, Charlie, Brady, James, and Cate; a sister-in-law, Sally Erskine, many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Donald and Robert (Bob) and many brothers and sisters-in law. She was incredibly proud of her children and grandchildren and loved attending their various extracurricular endeavors.

The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the Four Points United Methodist Church, Hemlock Campus, 406 W. Saginaw St. Hemlock, MI. 48626. Rev. Robert Richards will officiate with burial in Richland Twp. Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of the funeral service.
