Santos Salas Medina

Loving father, brother, and papa passed away on Sunday, February 5^th, 2023, in Saginaw. Santos was born on June 28^th, 1945, to the late Castulo & Dominga (Salas) Medina. A self-employed handyman, Santos was a pillar of his community, serving his friends and neighbors by tending to their lawns, fixing things for them, and helping them move. In 1990 he married Donna Gross. She preceded him in death in 2009. In his free time, Santos enjoyed fishing, playing pool, bowling, and watching boxing. He loved to go to the casino and always made sure his lawn was in top shape. He was a faithful man who attended First Baptist Church in Bridgeport, and he enjoyed taking long walks, especially with his dog. Santos is remembered as a hard working and determined, if stubborn, man, who was loving and caring. He was never mistaken for someone else, and his distinct walk was especially memorable. Above all, he relished the chance to be a grandfather, lovingly earning the name “papa.”

Santos is survived by his children, Dorothy (Robert Nugent) Ross, Sophia (Gilbert) Gonzalez, Pablo (Esmeralda) Medina Garcia; grandchildren, Mackinley, Teagan, Makaelyn, Natalie, Connor, Juanita Hernandez, Jessica LaVae Bradburn, Jasmine Hargis, Alec Guerrero, Phillip Guererro Jr., Phylicia Guerrero; great-grandchildren, Druid, Valkryie, and Alex Hernandez, Jr.,  siblings Casper Medina, Olga Hozeska, Victor Medina; and Godson, Chris “Tooter” (Monica) Hozeska, who was like a son to him; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, friends, and his faithful dog Khaleesi.

Santos was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Gross; son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Tammy Guerrero, and siblings, Ernie Medina, Margie Medina, Mary Medina, Angie Medina, and Leo Medina. 

A funeral service for Santos will take place at 1:00pm on Friday, February 10^th, 2023, at W.L. Case & Company, 5700 Dixie Highway, Saginaw. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, February 9^th, from 3:00pm until 8:00pm, and on Friday from 12:00pm until the time of service.
