Obituary

Ruth Maxine Honaman, of Merrill, Michigan, passed away on March 13, 2025, at the age of 101.

Ruth was born in Fergus, Michigan, on January 8, 1925, to the late Gordon Clark and Lillie Warrichait.

A lifelong resident of Merrill, Ruth was deeply involved in many aspects of her community. She was a proud member of Merrill Congregational Church. She had a profound love of farming and was a Farm Bureau Member. She enjoyed quilting and was a lifelong member of the Lakefield Quilters, where her skill and heart for quilting were well known.

As a devoted "Vandal," Ruth was a passionate sports enthusiast, supporting Merrill athletics with wholehearted devotion. She was a Merrill sports booster, regularly attending sporting events and sharing her enthusiasm with fellow fans.

Ruth always supported veterans interests and the welfare of her community. During World War II, she was a proud “Rosie the Riveter”.

Ruth was united in marriage with Gerald Honaman on June 8, 1946. Gerald preceded her in death on April 5, 1980.

She is survived by her daughter Carol (Robert) Kennedy of Merrill and son David (Robin) Honaman of Hemlock. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Robert (Joni) Kennedy, Julie (Tony) Villano, Lori Buckley, David J. (Anna) Honaman, Aaron Honaman, and Madalyn R. (Clay Hudson) Honaman; thirteen great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her grandson Maxwell Honaman; her siblings and their spouses Doris (Arland) Honaman, James (Kathryn) Clark, Clifford (Carol) Clark, and Betty Clark; as well as nephews Roddy and Larry and niece Linda.

Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at Merrill Congregational Christian Church, 245 S Midland Rd, Merrill, MI 48637, with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. Rev. Richard Gossett will officiate the service and interment will follow in Lakefield Township Cemetery.
