It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Russell Lane Jones Sr., age 82, of Saginaw, Michigan, who passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, at Healthsource Saginaw. Russell was born on December 1, 1943, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Albert and Pearl Jones. Throughout his life, he was known as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a cherished friend to many. One June 17, 1961, he married the love of his life, Suzanne Marie Doud, and his family began to grow.

Family was the center of Russell’s life. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with those he loved and created countless memories that will be remembered for generations. Known for his competitive spirit, Russell especially enjoyed playing games with family and friends, always bringing enthusiasm and laughter to every gathering. He also enjoyed the thrill of the casino trying his luck at the slots.

Russell had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and found great enjoyment in hunting and fishing. He also took pride in canning his own tomatoes and was well known for his skills in the kitchen. Whether preparing a meal, sharing stories, or enjoying time with loved ones, Russell had a special way of bringing people together. His kindness, dedication to family, strong work ethic, and love of life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Russell (Gaye Gorman) Jones Jr., Timothy (Rebecca) Jones, and Holly (Michael) DeFrancesco; his sister, Helen Kobalt; brother, Royal (Connie) Jones; his grandchildren, Matthew Jones, Ashley (Eric) Dalek, Lindsey (Wesson) Smith, Jacob (Brooklynn) Defrancesco, and Randy Jones; his great-grandchildren, Liam and Henry DeFrancesco, and Griffin Smith and another bundle of joy on the way; sister-in-law, Leona Jones; his special friends, Richard and Suzanne Dillman, and Bill Lucio; as well as many other extended family members who will miss him dearly.

Alongside his parents, Albert and Pearl Jones, Russell is preceded in passing by his loving wife, Suzanne; his brothers, Albert Jones and John Jones; brother-in-law William Kobalt; sister, Gladys (Fred) Tackeberry; and one son and his wife, Randy and Athena Jones.

A service to celebrate Russell is set to take place on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at 11:00 am at the chapel of Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 950 N Center Road, Saginaw, MI 48638. Family will receive visitors on Thursday, July 9, 2026 starting at 10:00am at W.L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603. Russell will be laid to rest next to his wife following the service in the mausoleum.

Though his passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family and friends, his legacy of love, laughter, and treasured memories will live on.
