Ronald Dale
Smith Sr
January 22, 1942 – June 15, 2026
Ronald Dale Smith Sr., born January 22, 1942, in Mohall, North Dakota, passed away surrounded by those who loved him. The son of Vernon and Doris (Morrison) Smith, Ronald grew up with a strong sense of purpose, resilience, and devotion to family—qualities that shaped every chapter of his life.
Ronald proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1965, beginning a lifelong commitment to service. After completing his military duty, he continued protecting his nation through a distinguished career as an agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, while also serving in the Saginaw office as a member if the Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement Team, a role he carried with deep pride and unwavering integrity.
After raising his family, Ronald met Denise Welles, the love of his life and his steadfast partner. Their bond grew into a marriage filled with affection, humor, and mutual respect, and they joyfully wed in July of 2000. Ronald was a kind and loving husband, devoted to Denise.
A man of many talents and passions, Ronald embraced life with determination and curiosity. He was an avid pilot, a dedicated hunter and fisherman, and a meticulous craftsman who enjoyed reloading ammunition. He found peace and satisfaction in gardening, nurturing the earth with the same care he gave to the people around him. His family knew him as headstrong and determined, traits that fueled his accomplishments and shaped his character.
Among his greatest joys was being a grandfather, and he took immense pride in his grandchildren’s achievements. His eyes lit up whenever he spoke of them, and he celebrated their successes as wholeheartedly as his own.
Ronald was also a proud and active member of several organizations, including the American Legion Post 439, the Moose Lodge, and Saginaw Field and Stream, where he found camaraderie, purpose, and lifelong friendships.
He will be remembered for his steadfast loyalty, his love of country, his many skills and passions, and the quiet strength he carried throughout his life. Ronald’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him, loved him, and were shaped by his presence.
Ronald is survived by his beloved wife, Denise; his children, Lorraine “Lori” Smith Raymond and Ronald Dale Smith Jr.; his brother, Rick (Donna) Smith; his cherished grandchildren, Wesley Smith, Samantha Smith, and Jack Raymond; his brother-in-law Theodore “Teddy” (Andrea) Chirstian and their son, Alex Christian; his sister-in-law, Cindy Clark; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members who will hold his memory dear.
He is preceded in passing by his parents; his brothers, Darrel Smith and Doug Smith; his son, Brian Joseph Smith; brothers-in-laws, Mark Welles and Jeff Christian; and sister-in-law, Cindy’s, husband Pat Clark.
In keeping with Ronald’s wishes cremation has taken place. There are no services planned at this time.
