Obituary

Ronald Irvin Rood, of Tawas City, Michigan (formerly of Saginaw), passed away on October 24, 2026.

Born in Saginaw, Michigan on April 22, 1953, Ron lived a life full of passion, dedication, and a deep love for his family. He was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School, class of 1971. Ron dedicated 30 years of his life to serving the community through the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked in customer service before retiring in 2009.

Beyond his professional life, Ron was a man of many talents and enduring passions. His love for hockey was legendary; he played the sport with vigor right up until just two days before his passing, a testament to his enduring spirit and zest for life. For over three decades, Ron was also a dedicated sailor, spending countless hours on the water, a passion he shared through his long-standing membership at the Bay City Yacht Club, where he was a life member. He was also a proud member of the Saginaw Club. Ron had a keen eye for beauty and history, evident in his lifelong passion for collecting antique furniture and clocks. He possessed a true 'jack of all trades' mentality, enjoying building projects and embracing challenges with enthusiasm. His love for photography allowed him to capture the world's beauty, preserving memories for himself and others. He was a steadfast supporter of the arts, contributing to the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra and the Tawas Bay Art Gallery.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jill Kathleen (Merton) Rood. They were united in marriage on August 11, 1973. Ron is also survived by their son, Andrew (Trisa) Rood, and two grandchildren, Zachary and Eleni; two brothers, Robert and Larry (Sharon) Rood; and many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his dear friend Kal, who he thought of as his brother.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Enoch Rood and Kathryn Ann (Minett) Rood; and his brother, Richard Rood.

Ron’s family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff of MyMichigan Medical Center for the loving care they provided to Ron.
