Ronald "Ron" Paul Gardner

Ronald “Ron” Paul Gardner of Saginaw

Passed away at his home, surrounded by family, in Saginaw, Michigan, on September 29th, 2022, at the age of 79. He was born in Saginaw to the late Earl & Clara (Pressley) Gardner, and was a graduate of Arthur Hill Tech. Shortly after graduating, Ron enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country as a Gunner’s Mate aboard the U.S.S Mullinnix during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Following his service, he spent over 34 years working for the Saginaw News until he retired in 2002, after which he worked for the Mail Room until 2022. Ron married Shari Jacob on February 11th, 1995. She preceded him in death in April 2016. Ron enjoyed contributing time to charitable organizations; he served as the longtime president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 497 and was an active member of the Shriners. Proud of his Military service, Ron was active with the American legion and the Veterans of foreign Wars. He was also a member of Polish Legion of American Veterans and Pulaski Club. Mostly, he enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and his dog Sweet Pea.  Ron’s fondest memories were his time spent coaching girls’ softball and playing softball later with his daughter Steph and son Matt on the same team. Ron is remembered as being kind and giving man with a big heart who would do anything for anyone, and as someone who was never seen without a smile on his face.

Ron is survived by children Stephanie Gordon & Matthew (Rachel) Gardner; stepsons Tod Humphrey & Ryan (Kim) Humphrey; and grandchildren Jeremy Gordon, Jacob Gordon, Brenden Gardner, Jesse Dupre, Sarah Humphrey, & Anna Humphrey; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members, friends, and his faithful dog Sweet Pea.

Ron was preceded in death by parents Earl & Clara Gardner; siblings Carole Sue Suitor, Robert (Arlene) Gardner, & Billy Gardner; wife Shari Gardner; and close friend and mother of his children Cathy Dougherty.

In accordance with Ron’s wishes, cremation is to take place, with a memorial service planned for 2:00pm on Sunday, November 6th, 2022, at American Legion Post 439, 5190 Weiss St. Saginaw. Those wanting to make a show of their sympathy may wish to consider a memorial contribution to Amazing Grace Animal Rescue.
