Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at Toni & Trish House, with his family at his side. At the age of 88 years.

The son of the late Anita (Flores) and Jesus Hernandez and Rafael Garibay, Ray was born on September 13, 1935, in La Barca, Mexico. Ray proudly served in the United States Army. He married Ramona Gonzalez on January 15, 1954; she preceded him in death on March 5, 2013. Ray was a lifetime member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.  He was an agent with Farmers Insurance Company for many years of loyal and dedicated service. Ray enjoyed gardening, and traveling, especially to Mexico. Above all, Ray cherished the time spent with his family and loved ones.

Left to cherish his memory are three daughters, one son, and their spouses: Rosalva Ortega, Sylvia and David Hernandez, Sr., Elizabeth and David Sawyer, Ramon and Bernadette Garibay; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; siblings: Anna, Joe, Juan, Jesse, Josefina, Helen. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Besides his wife, and his parents; Ray was preceded in death by son-in-law: Edward Ortega; sister: Connie Perez, and brother: Carlos Hernandez.

Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 3680 S Washington Rd, Saginaw, MI 48601. Rev. Fr. John Mancini O.S.F.S. will officiate. Rite of Committal and Military Honors under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post 22 will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may visit the family from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603, with a Prayer Service taking place at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening with Deacon Larry Gayton to officiate. Ray will lie in state at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass.
