Ralph Arnold Guant of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Wellspring of Frankenmuth. He was 94 years old. Ralph A. Gaunt was born on December 11, 1931, in East Jordan, Michigan, to the late Ralph A. and Belle E. (Habel) Gaunt. He was a graduate of Birch Run High School. Ralph proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from October 6, 1952, until his honorable discharge on July 14, 1954. While participating in 4H, he met the love of his life, Clara E. Stevenson. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on March 3, 1952; she preceded him in death on July 20, 2017. Ralph was employed with Shear Tool as a tool and die maker, retiring after 25 years of loyal and dedicated service. Above all else, his greatest legacy was the love he shared as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He civically served his community on the Board of Directors of United Financial Credit Union, VFW 1859, and Korean War Veterans 251. Ralph was a former member of Warren Avenue United Methodist Church. He loved camping with his family at Smoke Rise, camping up north in East Jordan, playing pool with his siblings in his basement, and most of all spending time with his family. His little piece of heaven was canning with his wife, Clara, and spending time in his vegetable garden after work tending to his potatoes, corn, beans, and tomatoes. Though he could be strong-willed, he will forever be remembered as a man who enjoyed vacationing with his wife and family, as a loving man, and his hard work ethic.
Surviving are his children: Sylvia (Stephen) Schultz, Linda Ruple, Terry (Jackie) Gaunt, and Ralph II (Julie) Gaunt; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; siblings, Richard Gaunt, Jerry Gaunt, Donna Kuhne, and Irene Herzog. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Belle Gaunt; son-in-law, Larry Ruple; siblings: Shirley, Annabelle, and Carl; two sisters-in-law, Jan and Yvonne Gaunt; two brothers-in-law, Ed and John.
A funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Pastor Jim Doran will officiate. Military honors and entombment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post 22. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Multiple Sclerosis Society. Please share your thoughts and memories with the family at the funeral home or though www.casefuneralhome.com.
