A much-loved father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle, Robert Lloyd Dye, 66, of Freeland, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on January 22, 2026. He was born March 21, 1959 in Saginaw, Michigan to Duane and Janet (Dankert) Dye. Robert graduated in 1977 from Douglas MacArthur High School. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Central Michigan University.
A talented craftsman and skilled salesperson, Robert owned and operated Dye’s Kitchen & Bath in Hemlock, Michigan for many years. He later combined his sales skills with his love of Michigan lakes by selling boats in West Michigan. Robert enjoyed being on the golf course and was an avid sports fan. He relished in his love of the Green Bay Packers and, in true Robert-style, would don his Green Bay Santa hat during the holidays. His affinity for baseball was particularly special to him, as some of his fondest memories were of cheering on his talented son, David. Robert was also known to enjoy fishing and hunting. For many years he could be found at deer camp making priceless memories with his family, including his mom and dad and older sister, Robin. He bonded with his younger daughter, Magen, through his work, including her on jobs and sharing his skills with her; he often spoke of these memories and how impressed he was with her natural skills. He shared a love of cooking with his eldest daughter, Lauren, but perhaps equally enjoyed sparring with her over politics. Robert was a man of many interests and skills.
Though Robert enjoyed many long-term friendships, he had a very special friend in Todd Spencer. His sisters, Renee and Roxanne, were two of his greatest champions. The importance of the time they enjoyed together and the unwavering support he received from them cannot be overstated.
He is survived by his children, David (Kayla) Dye, Lauren (Brent Eskew) Dye, and Magen (Joseph) Bolin; mother of his children and wife of 44 years, Mary Dye; adoring mother Janet (Dankert) Dye; grandchildren, Jackson Lay, Brett Bolin, Ryan Bolin, Margaret Bolin, William Eskew, and Finnegan Dye; sisters, Renee (Jim Westover) Pack and Roxanne (Tim) Nestler; lifelong friend, Todd Spencer; as well many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Duane Dye, and his sister, Robin (Dye) Alpin.
Visitation with the family will be held Friday, January 30th, 3:30-6:30 p.m. at W.L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 N. Miller Road, Saginaw, Michigan, with a memorial immediately following at 6:30 p.m.
