Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center, with his family at his side; at the age of 94 years.

The son of the late Morris and Charlotte (Owen) Rice, Richard was born on November 20, 1928, in Saginaw, Michigan. He graduated from Saginaw High School with the class of 1946. Richard proudly served in the United States Army. He married Carlene A. Spiekerman on September 2, 1949; she preceded Richard in death on July 23, 2008. He worked at General Motors for 27.5 years of loyal and dedicated service until he retired in 1987. Richard was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. He served as Past Master, Scottish Rite, and President Emeritus Shrine Ritualistic Cast at Masonic Lodge #77 and Elf Khurafeh Shrine. Richard was on a reunion committee for the class of 1946 graduates of Saginaw High School, his fellow classmates and friends still met once a month for a lunch at Levi’s. He enjoyed hunting and traveling with Carlene. They were able to travel all 50 U.S. states before their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Above all, Richard cherished the time spent with his family and loved ones.

Surviving are two daughters and one son: Connie (Randy) Sedgwick, Gaile (late husband: Curt) Lambkin, Gene Rice; grandchildren: Kristi (Dave) Weber, Tammi (Dennis) Sova, Lisa (Darwin) Nippert, Jason (Lesley) Rice, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; one brother-in-law, and one sister-in-law. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Richard was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, two brothers-in-law, and three sisters-in-law.

A Committal Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum, 5950 Gratiot Road, Saginaw, Michigan 48638. Rev. Ruth Estell will officiate. Friends may visit the family from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw, Michigan 48603; and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the mausoleum on Wednesday. A Masonic Service will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at the funeral chapel. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, or the Palliative Care at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center.
