Father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at Wellspring Assisted Living.

Richard was born February 28, 1937, in Alma, Michigan, the son of the late Albert and Esther (Zinn) Heuschele. He worked at the family service station in Alma and enjoyed summers at Budd Lake in Harrison. Richard graduated from Alma High School class of 1955, Alma College in 1959, and the University of Michigan Medical School in 1963, serving his residency in Radiology. He married JoAnne Stocker on June 18, 1960; she predeceased him on July 30, 2012. Richard was a member of numerous clubs and associations, including Saginaw County Medical Society, Michigan State Medical Society, American College of Radiology, and Michigan Radiological Society. He was an associate clinical Professor of Radiology at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine as well as Chief of Staff at Saginaw General Hospital. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, playing organ, piano and singing in the choir. Richard and JoAnne enjoyed their winters in Florida and their summers at their cottage in Harrison. He especially loved boating, travel, cars, and, above all, spending time with his family.

Surviving are his three children Jane Rice of Bay City, Laura Beneker of Chesaning, and Erich (Diana) Heuschele of Oxford; grandchildren: Bryan (Raylene) Rice, William (Lauren) Armstrong, Megan (Rafferty) Carothers, David (Heather) Rice, Paul (Starrlin) Heuschele, and Daniel Heuschele; great-grandchildren: Rebecca, Aubrey, Milo, Ava, Kolbe, and Ryker; a brother Daniel (Pamela) Heuschele, and a sister-in-law Barb Heuschele.

Along with his parents and wife JoAnne, Richard was predeceased by his brother, Ralph Heuschele.

Richard’s memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church, 121 S. Harrison Street, Saginaw, where his family will receive friends from 2:00 pm Saturday until the time of the service. Rev. Ted McCulloch will officiate. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or Alma College.
