Richard “Dick” Brookman of Frankenmuth, formerly of Burton, Michigan
Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 19, 2025. He was 79 years old. Richard Albert Brookman was born October 5, 1945, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Albert Lee and Doris Margaret (Traxler) Brookman. He was a proud 1964 graduate of Montrose High School. Following graduation, Dick began a 30+ years career as a truck driver hauling cement, gravel, and heavy equipment for Zito Construction, Kurtz Gravel, and the Teamsters Local 332. The role of his lifetime, one he treasured and cherished above all others, was to be a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He loved his children dearly, but when his grandchildren were born each one stole a little piece of his heart, making his soul feel full. Dick enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and tending to his vegetable garden. An antique enthusiast, he enjoyed collecting both radios and cars. Dick cheered for his favorite sports teams, the University of Michigan and all Detroit sports teams. Though he could be lovingly stubborn and independent, he will forever be remembered fondly for his goofy and wonderful sense of humor, for his selflessness to family and friends, for his ability to keep things organized, dated, and in binders, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.
Surviving are four children: Amy (Bob) Rupp of Tampa, FL; Ryan Brookman of Calabasas, CA; Andrea (Mike) Elisech of Saginaw; Nathan (Nicole) Brookman of Birch Run; seven grandchildren: Sarah (Anthony) Bauer, Robert Pollock, Cayleb Brookman, Michael Elisech, Emma Elisech, Andrew Brookman, and Jack Brookman; two great-grandchildren: Bryce Bauer and Bella Bauer; a sister, Margaret Jacob of Clio. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends, too numerous to mention, but held closely to Dick’s heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Doris Brookman, two brothers: Donald and Douglas (Marie) Brookman; and a brother-in-law, Norman Jacob.
A funeral service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 5700 Dixie Highway, Saginaw, MI 48601.
