Raymond C. "Ray"
Gotham Sr.
Oct 27, 1942 — Jul 26, 2026
Raymond “Ray” C. Gotham, Sr. of Burt, Michigan
Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 26, 2026. He was 83 years old. Raymond C. Gotham was born on October 27, 1942, in Ashley, Michigan, to the late John W.S. and Ruby (Coosley) Gotham. Ray married Barbara J. Maier on April 20, 1968; she preceded him in death on January 17, 2011. He worked for General Motors/Steering Gear as an assembly line worker for 30 years. When he wasn’t spending time with his family, he could be found at home working on small engines. Up at the crack of dawn, Ray didn’t let any grass grow under his feet. He enjoyed spending time visiting with friends, drinking coffee, and going to the casino. Strong-willed, quick-written, and fiercely independent, he will forever be remembered for his one liner and an uncanny ability to turn everyday moments into unforgettable stories.
Surviving are four sons and their spouses: Raymond C. (Sandra) Gotham Jr.; Leonard E. (Susan Michael) Gotham; Mark A. (Stephanie L.) Gotham; Eric H.M. (Tara M.) Gotham; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a brother and sister: Garry (Darlene) Gotham and Diane (Gordon) Busch; two sisters-in-law: Sally Gotham and Sandy Gotham. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara J. Gotham; parents, John W.S. and Ruby Gotham; great-grandson, Jordan Gotham; brothers and sisters: Merlin (Mildred) Gotham, Ronald (Joyce) Gotham, Della (Oralie) Wilson, Larry Gotham, Dorothy (George) Deaton and Dennis Gotham.
