Norman Dale Hamilton, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on November 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Norman was born on July 26, 1936, in Greenbush Township, Michigan, to Leon and Nellie (Boddy) Hamilton. He grew up with a strong work ethic, practical intelligence, and a determination that would define his life.
In 1955, Norman married the love of his life, Mary Francis Theresa Dugas. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. Their family began to grow with the birth of their first son in 1956, and over the years they created a home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.
Norman dedicated 33 years of his career to the ironworking trade and was a proud member of Ironworkers Local 25. He was known for his skill, precision, and commitment to excellence, qualities that extended far beyond his profession.
A man of many interests, Norman was a longtime member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), the Chesaning Area Fliers, the Gas Tractor Association, the Crescent City, Florida Moose Lodge, and Ascension Lutheran Church. He generously volunteered his time through his church and at the Eastside Soup Kitchen, quietly serving others and making a difference in his community.
Norman was a true master craftsman who seemed capable of building anything he could imagine. He personally built the family home where he and Mary raised their children, creating not just a house but a foundation for generations of family memories. His remarkable talents and curiosity also led him to accomplish something few people ever attempt: he built his own helicopter.
Highly intelligent and blessed with an exceptional eye for detail, Norman approached every project with care and determination. He was known for being stubborn at times, a trait that often reflected his unwavering commitment to doing things the right way. Family and friends relied on him not only for his knowledge and practical wisdom but also for his discretion. He was everyone's confidante. Any secret shared with Norman remained safe with him, and his counsel was trusted by all who knew him.
Above all, Norman was the voice of reason within his family. In times of uncertainty, he offered perspective, calm, and common sense. His steady presence, quiet strength, and enduring love will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those fortunate enough to know him.
Norman leaves behind his beloved wife of 70 years, Theresa; his children, Dave (Sharlene), Richard (Patricia), Norman (Mary), daughter-in-law Deb, and Jean (Rich) Hamilton; grandchildren, Shannon, Tina, Sheena, Richard, Holly, Melissa, Samantha, Jenny, Michael, Emily, Lisa, Amy, and Jamie; and 26 great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory and carry forward the values he lived by.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Nellie Hamilton; his son, James Hamilton; his siblings, Ella (Molly) Sayan, Russell, Robert, and Jack Hamilton; his son-in-law, Rich; and many other loved ones who welcomed him into eternal peace.
A life well lived leaves a legacy that endures. Norman's legacy is found in the family he loved, the home he built, the people he helped, and the countless lives he touched with his wisdom, integrity, and unwavering devotion
A memorial service is set to take place on Saturday, November 14, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Ascension Lutheran Church, 8695 Gratiot Road, Saginaw, MI 48609. Pastor Julie Bailey will officiate. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 11:00 am until the time of the service at 1:00 pm.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation in honor of Norman to the East Side Soup Kitchen, https://www.eastsidesoupkitchen.org/ , or to Ascension Lutheran Church.
