Nancy Eileen
Abbott
April 7, 1948 – May 25, 2026
With deep sorrow, we announce the death of Nancy Eileen Abbott, who left this world on May 25, 2026, in Saginaw, Michigan, at the age of 78. She was born April 7th 1948 to Robert Jourdan Hoover and Helen (Haefke) Hoover in Manitowoc WI, the last of their four children.
Nancy studied art at Utah State and was an accomplished painter. She married Cecil M. Abbott III and had two children, Ryan and Lisa, whom she adored and bragged about often.
Nancy received her associate’s degree in Geriatrics from Saginaw Valley State University and was a certified activity director for several assisted living homes, including Saginaw Geriatrics, for over 25 years. She was the development chairman for the Michigan Association of Activity Professionals (MAAP) who awarded her the Ruth Helms Award in 2001 for her service and dedication.
She was a proud member of Zonta International, District 15 (Chapter 156), and visited Japan in the 1980’s as part of their international sisterhood celebration. While she never had a chance to return there, she enjoyed traveling with friends (notably Mary Byron and Darlene McComb) and her visit to Alaska was a cherished memory.
Nancy will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law (Lisa Abbott and Atis Kleinbergs), a sister (Tuji Arnold), brothers and sisters-in-law (Chuck and Karen Hoover, and Tom and Yvonne Abbott), a sister-in-law (Susan Hoover), four nieces (Terry, Allisen, Krista and Terri), several nephews (Michael, Robert, David, Mel and Al) and her former husband (Cecil). She is preceded in death by her son (Ryan Abbott), her brother (Frank Hoover), her brother-in-law (Mel Arnold), and her parents. She will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, and a celebration of life will take place later this summer.
Nancy was an avid reader, loved the wild birds (& squirrels) who visited her daily, and was a devoted cat Mom to Tenor and Max. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local library, the Michigan Audubon Society, or the Humane Society of Saginaw County in her honor.
