Collier, Melvin J. Hemlock, Michigan
Passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 10, 2014, with his family by his side. Age 97 years. The son of the late Alfonce and Nora Mae (Tiffin) Collier was born April 21, 1917 in Hemlock, Michigan. He married Barbara Kollar, she predeceased him on May 2, 1992. Melvin served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the Hemlock-Merrill V.F.W. Post 7302. He was very patriotic, proud of his country and flag. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, kept his pocket full of candy for kids and loved spending time with his family. Surviving are his children and their spouses, Sandy (Max) Denter, Larry (Carolyn) Bowman, Gary (Michele) Collier, Duane (Patti) Collier, Rolly (Cassandra) Collier, Roger (Linda) Collier and Debbie Collier; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; special friends and caretakers, Becky Reichler, Helen Waters and Laurie Resci. Along with his parents and wife Barbara, Melvin was predeceased by his brothers Delmos and Lowell Collier; his son, Ben Bowman; his daughter-in-law, Metta Bowman; his grandchildren, Tracey and Chad Bowman. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2014 at W. L. Case and Company 4480 Mackinaw Road. Chaplain Ron Compton will officiate with burial in Fremont Township Cemetery. Military honors will be under the auspices of the Hemlock-Merrill V.F.W. Post 7302. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and then on Monday at 10:00 a.m. until time of the service.
