Melva Mae Spangler

Melva Mae Spangler of Saginaw, Michigan, formerly of Merrill

Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away at her home, Swanhaven, on Monday, October 6, 2025. The daughter of the late Goldie (Moore) McNier and Charles McNier was born on January 15, 1930, in Merrill, Michigan. She married Matthew LeRoy Spangler February 14, 1948; he preceded her in death on January 4, 2019. Melva assisted with the farm in the Merrill area for 65 years and raised her family of four boys. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Society helping with many of their fundraising activities.

Surviving are four sons and their wives, Randall and Gwen Spangler of Romeo; Carl and Kathy Spangler of Cadillac; Scott Spangler of Saginaw; Aaron and Casalyn Spangler of Interlochen; five grandchildren and their spouses: Lori Spangler, Lincoln and Kim Spangler, Melinda and Michael Coulthard, Tracy and Steve Darnell, and Evan and Jennifer Spangler; three great-grandchildren: Tyler, Nathan, and Wesley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew L. Spangler; parents, Charles and Goldie McNier; brother, Harold McNier; two sisters, Irene Minto and Vivian Moulton.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 10020 E. Monroe Rd., Wheeler, MI 48662. Pastor Michael Podeszwa will officiate. Burial will follow at Lakefield Township Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Friday at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 125 E. Saginaw St., Merrill, MI 48637 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
