Maxine Elaine Merchant

Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully at her home, with family by her side, on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the age of 79 years.

The daughter of the late Ernest and Mona (Pilon) Unger, Maxine was born on March 7, 1944, in Essexville, Michigan. She married the love of her life, Dan Louis Merchant on September 30, 1961. He survives her. Maxine enjoyed bird watching, reading, completing puzzles, crafting, and baking. She will be remembered for being a loving, devoted, selfless, kind hearted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Surviving are her husband, Dan Merchant; her children, Denise (Mark) Brophy; Doreen (Jerry) Fries; Debbie (Tom) Walsh; Daniel Merchant, Jr.; grandchildren: James, Catherine, Elizabeth, Rebekah, Jared, Adam, Amber, Andrew, Nicole, Alysia, Cheddar the Cat; Also surviving are 16 great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will take place at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Bridgeport, 2400 King Road. Pastor J.D. Howell will officiate with Entombment in Oakwood Mausoleum. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
