Obituary

Mary Ellen (Giorgis) Sieggreen passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family and friends on September 13, 2022. She was born September 8, 1934 in Saginaw, Michigan, the daughter of the late Peter and Louise Giorgis. She spent her life faithfully caring for others, through her nursing career, at St. Mary’s Hospital, where she attended her nursing training and spent the majority of her career. She graduated from SS. Peter and Paul High School in 1952.  She married Kenneth Sieggreen on August 26, 1955. He predeceased her. Together they shared a life of love for their daughter, Ann Louise Hoffman. Mary Ellen was formerly a member of St. Helen parish and current member of St. Dominic parish. 


Surviving are her daughter, Ann Louise (Hon. David) Hoffman, one granddaughter, Gabriella (Matthew) DeVries and one grandson, Grant Hoffman. Also surviving her, Patricia (Gerald) Beyer and sister-in-law Judene Giorgis; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia (Allan) Bader; two brothers-in-law, Michael Cox and Karl Gawne, and her sister-in-law Maria Flory. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, special friends and exceptional neighbors, John and Carol Musulin.


Mary Ellen was predeceased by her aunt, Minnie (Joseph) Columbo; her siblings, Catherine (Albert) Janetsky, James Giorgis, Julius (Mary) Giorgis and Frances Giorgis. She was also predeceased by several brothers and sister-in-laws, Dr. Gerald (Alice) Sieggreen, Emil (Mary) Sieggreen, Carol Gawne, Roxanne Cox, Clyde “Bud” Cox, William Cox, James Flory and Maxine (Bernard) Mahoney.


A Mass of Christian Burial will take place, at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2022, at St. Dominic Parish - St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1310 Malzahn. Rev. Fr. Steven Gavit and Rev. Fr. Randy Kelly will concelebrate. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery. Visitation to take place at the W.L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. (noon) to 8:00 p.m. Pastoral Minister Sharon Wahl will lead a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Mary Ellen will lie in state at the church on Friday from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until the time of Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to the Saginaw Choral Society. St. Dominic Parish, or the Mustard Seed.
