Mary L. Case, age 92, of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Louise Richir was born August 30, 1931, in Saginaw, the daughter of the late Leo F. Richir and Marie V. (Marlier) Richir. The family’s native language was French, and Mary’s sister Bonnie called the new baby “petite,” earning Mary the lifelong nickname of Pete. Mary had many fond childhood memories of times spent with her family and friends in St. Charles, including riding her bicycle there from Saginaw. She attended Saginaw public schools, graduating from Arthur Hill High School in 1949. On February 9, 1951, she married Winfred L. Case, and they had 68 years of happy marriage. He passed away Oct 29, 2019. Mary and Win had a wide circle of friends in Saginaw and Bay City. They enjoyed many years of traveling, especially to their cabin in Lovells on the North Branch of the Au Sable River. They were avid antiquers and loved visiting antique shows around the state and country. They had a booth for several years in the Saginaw Antique Warehouse. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt who loved spending time with her family.
Mary is survived by six daughters and their spouses: Julie and Tim Swieczkowski, Mary Lou Case and Bill Snyder, Susan Case, Kathy Case, Caroline and Leo Orsini, and Amy Case and partner Zac Paszko; eight grandchildren and their spouses: Win and Carrie Swieczkowski, Sarah Swieczkowski, Merrill Snyder, Albert and Leah Case, Casey Denno, Kristin Denno, Joe and Andrea Orsini, and Anna and Jason Gierman; eight great-grandchildren: Jillian Snyder-Case, Stella and Bode Denno, Lauryn and Ali Case, Luke and Peter Orsini, and Jacob Gierman; nieces and nephews Linda Ruthig, John and Rose Ruthig, Joe Ruthig, David and Sheri Case, Stephen and Sara Cota and Jennifer and Robin Ashby, as well as several other cousins and relatives. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Jamey Denno, on May 20, 2021; sister, Bonnie Ruthig; her brother and his wife, Leo and Rosalie Richir; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fred and Roberta Case and Nancy and Andy Cota; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frederick W. and Blanche (Coash) Case.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her dear friend Lisa Malott, and the caregivers from St. Francis Home, Covenant Health Care, VNA Hospice, Toni and Trish Hospice House in Auburn, and Right at Home.
