Marlyn Kathleen
Watkins
June 20, 1931 – April 27, 2026
Marlyn Kathleen Watkins (Peters) of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on June 20, 1931, in Saginaw to Edward and Melissa (Edler) Peters, Marlyn lived a long and beautiful life shaped by creativity, resilience, and deep love for her family.
A proud graduate of Arthur Hill High School, Marlyn devoted her professional life to the art of photography. As a photograph painter, she used her meticulous eye and steady hand to bring color, warmth, and life to treasured images—preserving memories for countless families.
Marlyn’s artistic spirit extended far beyond her work. She found joy in painting, latch hook, needlepoint, crocheting, and ceramics. In her younger years, she and her beloved husband, Clarence, spent many happy days traveling “up north,” where they enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the quiet beauty of the outdoors. She also cherished their trips to Gulf Shores, Alabama, and throughout Florida, where they camped and made lasting memories together.
A lover of western movies, music, and dancing, Marlyn could often be found square dancing with Clarence or tending to her garden with care. Later in life, she delighted in the occasional visit to the casino, where she tried her luck at the penny slots—one penny at a time.
Marlyn will be remembered for her strong will and determined spirit, qualities that guided her throughout her life. Yet those who knew her best will also remember her warmth, generosity, and the open heart she shared with family and friends. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great‑grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and friend who welcomed others with love and sincerity.
She is survived by her son, Mark (Rita) Watkins; grandsons, Lucus (Kimberly) Watkins and Brandon Watkins; great‑grandson, Hunter Kilbourn; great‑granddaughter, Sadie Watkins; daughter‑in‑law, Teresa Watkins; great‑great‑grandson, Obyda; nieces, Diane Watkins and Joyce Peters‑Catanzaro; nephews, Jim (Tracy) Peters, David Peters, and Michael Peters; great‑niece, Rebecca Peters; great‑nephew, Christopher (Paige) Peters; and many extended family members who will continue to carry her memory forward.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her high-school sweetheart, Clarence Watkins; her son, Matthew Watkins; her brother, James (Dorothy) Peters; and her brother‑in‑law, Clifton Watkins.
In accordance with Marlyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Marlyn’s memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her. Her artistic gifts, her steadfast spirit, and the love she shared will continue to inspire all whose lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
