Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother passed away peacefully with her family by her side at her home January 28, 2021. Marilyn Jean Hill was born February 21, 1930 in Fairgrove, MI to Edward F. and Carrie B. Houghtaling Hill. Marilyn grew up in Saginaw, MI, where she met and married the love of
her life Thomas A. McGarrity. They were married October 18, 1947 and would share 30 years together.

Thomas predeceased her April 6, 1976. She would later spend many years with her special companion Kenneth Oswald, he survives her.

Marilyn enjoyed many activities over her life some of which included listening to big band music, bowling, playing cards, hand-held electronic Yahtzee, shopping, and going out to lunch. She also never missed an opportunity to tell anyone how lucky she was to have such wonderful, smart, great grandchildren. She was very proud of her family and they were so blessed to have her love and guidance for so many years.

Marilyn is survived by her son Thomas J. and Lori McGarrity of Saginaw, daughter Mary Ann and Robert Brethauer of Saginaw. Grandchildren; Kristine (Charles) Robins of Freeland, Zsa Zsa (Kyle) Browne of St. Charles, Amy Jo Beene of Shreveport, LA, Robert (Amy) Brethauer of Saginaw, David (Amanda) McGarrity of Shreveport LA, Laura (Joe) Krazewski of Grand Rapids, Michael Brethauer of Saginaw, Erica Hollingsworth of Grand Blanc, Zachary (Ashley) Zsoter of Grand Rapids, and Heather (Eric) Beaudin of Ann Arbor. She also leaves 16 great grandchildren, special niece Nadine Meyers, and special friend Linda Schumacher Gerken, several nieces and nephews, and sister in laws Susie Oleszewski and Carole Fowler.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas, her sons Robert A. McGarrity and David P. McGarrity, her siblings Cassie Wilson, Nina Schian, Myrtle Hopper, James Hill, Vivian Henninger Sauve Seely, Glenadean Sieggreen, Pauline Hill, Donald Hill and their spouses, her parents, and best friends LaVerne and Beverly Schumacher.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider Saginaw County Animal Shelter or St. Jude's Hospital.
