Maria S. Salinas, age 81, of Saginaw, MI, passed away at home on Friday, July 31, 2026, with her daughters by her side.
Maria was born March 11, 1945, in Cotulla, Texas to the late Rafael Salinas and Amparo (Samaniego) Gonzales. She graduated from Saginaw High School in 1963. She retired from Covenant Medical Center – Cooper in the Endoscopy Department. She was a faithful member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.
Maria was a devout Catholic and faithfully prayed the Rosary. She loved cooking meals and baking cookies for her family, tending to her many flower gardens, and spending time with her family. She was an avid fan of John Wayne movies, home remodel shows, and EWTN.
Maria is survived by her children, Jose L. Garcia Jr., Montana “Monty” Garcia, Pompi (Sgt. M.C. Luciano) Garcia, and Anna Maria Garcia; eight grandchildren, Jose L. Garcia III, Manuela (Jorge) Fraire, Tristessa Rain Murphy, Tekao Storm Murphy, Francis Lanae Steen Garcia, Anna Maria Garcia, Harley Vandegrift, and Cody Vandegrift; great-grandchildren, Miguel Angel Fraire Garcia, Liliana Aracely Fraire Garcia, Anthony Fraire Garcia, Jose Angel Fraire, and her beloved great-grandson Mason Murphy Mauricio. She is also survived by siblings, Julio (Jean) Gonzales, Frances (Johnny) Allen, Franc Gonzales, Cruz (Rick) Lotz, Theresa (Gary) Gonzales, Angie Gonzales and a special sister-in-law Kathryn “Kathy” Gonzales; also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings Jose Gonzalez, Anthony “Tony” Gonzales, Guadalupe “Lupe” Cruz, Carol Gatica, Conchita “Connie” G. Mendez, and George Gonzales and several special cousins and friends.
Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 3680 S Washington Ave, Saginaw, MI 48601, with the Funeral Liturgy to follow at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Fr. Alberto Vargas. Per her wishes, cremation will take place after the service.
In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to the American Cancer Society.
