Maria Esther Turner (Loperena)

Maria Esther Loperena Turner passed away peacefully at her home, on Saturday, April 19, 2025, surrounded by the family she cherished. She was born on April 4, 1950, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.

Maria spent 75 beautiful years lighting up every room she entered. She never met a stranger, only friends she hadn’t spoken to yet. Friendly, kind, and loving, she greeted everyone with a ready smile and an unshakable faith in Jesus. Maria loved her family and friends. She enjoyed dancing, eating good food, spending quality time with her friends and family, especially her siblings, children and grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and loved Pina Coladas. She loved to travel or just go on a road trip with her best friend Nana. She really enjoyed going to the casino and was always ready for a casino trip. Once you got there, do not expect to see her for hours. Regardless of the result of the trip, Maria was a winner every time.

She is survived by her children, Christina Loperena and Marco (Sarah) Turner; grandchildren, Danielle Clark, De’Ante Clark, Jonah Turner and Gabby Turner; great‑grandchildren, Sha’Mari and Serenity; sisters, Amalia (Randy), Alicia, and Zenaida; brothers, Simeon (Margaret), Jose, and a large, loving circle of nieces, nephews, great‑nieces, and great‑nephews. Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Simeon Roman Loperena and Esther “Mamita” Garcia‑Vidal; her beloved husband, Johnnie Turner; her grandson, Brayden, brother Carlito, her favorite uncle, Tío Tony; and brother‑in‑law, Mike. .

Her brother Jose was her caregiver until her last breath. His care for her over the past 6 years allowed her to rest in peace in her home. Thank you, Uncle Joe, for allowing Mommy to live out her remaining years in her home and caring for her.

Maria’s legacy is one of boundless hospitality, unwavering faith, and contagious joy. She was a kind soul with a giving heart. In her honor, the family invites you to share a meal with someone you love, dance to a favorite song, visit a casino for a little fun, or perform simple act of kindness in her name.

Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, April 25, 2025, at W. L. Case and Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may consider the wishes of the family, in care of Marco Turner.
