Margarita “Margaret” Guerrero of Hemlock, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, August 31, 2026, at Covenant HealthCare – Harrison. She was 93 years old. Margarita Sanchez was born on January 28, 1933, in Strawn, Texas, to the late Bardominao and Elvira (Quintana) Sanchez Sr. She attended Breckenridge Public Schools. At 17 years old, Margaret became the first Miss American GI Forum Queen in Saginaw. While at a dance in Saginaw, Margaret met the love of her life, Emiliano “Emil” Guerrero Jr. They dated, fell in love and were united in marriage on October 24, 1959; he preceded her in death on May 3, 1996. Of all the roles she held throughout her life, she treasured and cherished being a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Becoming a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother filled her heart with love that was unconditional, enduring, and everlasting. She was a member of St. John XXIII Parish, St. Mary Catholic Church in Hemlock. Margaret enjoyed taking trips to Soaring Eagle Casino, something she used to do with her mother. She and Emil loved bowling and spending time with their friends at the American Legion in Breckinridge. Family was at the center of her life. Margaret held a special bond with everyone, but none more evident than the special relationship she had with each of her grandchildren. Like her favorite color yellow, she will forever be remembered as a woman who brought warmth and light wherever she went. She carried this brightness to lift others and making the simplest moments feel a little more beautiful.

Surviving are her children: Cynthia Ann of Texas; Frank Guerrero of Hemlock; six grandchildren: Morgan (Andrew) Levsen of WY; Landon Kash of TX; Elayna Kash and her fiancé, Jordan Legue of Ypsilanti; Alejandra Kash of Flint; Cameron (Tara) Guerrero of Saginaw; Cody Guerrero of Farmington Hills; five great-grandchildren: Bentley Levsen, Teagan Levsen, Rowan Levsen of WY; Colton Guerrero and Madi Guerrero of Saginaw; two brothers: Felipe Sanchez of Saginaw; Adrian (Kathy) Sanchez of AZ; and a brother-in-law, David Karn of Diamondale. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emiliano “Emil” Guerrero; parents, Bardomiano and Elvira Sanchez, Sr.; and three brothers and one sister: Julian (Julie) Sanchez, Francisco Sanchez, Rita Karn, and Bardomiano Sanchez Jr.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Margaret’s two nieces, Eleanor Ehlert and Veronica Doss, for all the love, care and support they provided to her, as well as her nephew Bill (Joan) Runkel who always made a point to stop and see Aunt Margaret whenever they were in town.

A funeral liturgy will take place at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 708 Sanderson St., Saint Charles, MI 48655. Rev. Fr. Robert J. Kelm will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 N. Miller Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603, on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A family led sharing of memories will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening. Margaret will lie in state at the church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 12:00 p.m. Those wishing to show their love with flowers are encouraged to choose yellow, her favorite color, which reflects the light she was to the world.
