Margaret Jacobs

Margaret Mary Jacobs of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully at her apartment with her family by her side on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. She was 96 years old. Margaret Mary Shavrnoch was born on February 15, 1929, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Joseph and Agnes (Horvath) Shavrnoch. She married the love of her life, Lyle L. Jacobs on November 12, 1949; he preceded her in death on August 31, 1993. Margaret was a longtime member of St. Luke Ev. Lutheran Church and a current member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. The role of her lifetime was to be a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Above all, she loved, treasured, and cherished her family. A keen eye for detail, Margaret enjoyed spending time working in her yard, even winning the best home on the block by her neighbors. She also enjoyed playing cards and keeping both a clean and organized home. Margaret was also an excellent cook and baker, known fondly by her family for creating delicious pineapple upside down cake, chop suey, and sweet and sour stew. She understood the secret ingredient in every recipe created was “love”. Margaret will forever be remembered for the love and care she had for family, for being a kind and generous soul, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.

Surviving are two sons, two daughters: Michael Jacobs of Owosso; Carol Foss of Saginaw; Mark (Lori) Jacobs of Saginaw; Sue (Hunt) Thomas of Hot Springs Village, AR; six grandchildren: Amy (David) Miller, Mitchell (Shannon) Foss, Justin Jacobs, Sarah Jacobs, Ben (Belen) Thomas, and Jake (Alexis) Thomas; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Cushmann of Saginaw; a brother, Jim Shavrnoch. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle L. Jacobs; parents, Joseph and Agnes Shavrnoch; a brother, Joseph (Ethylynn) Shavrnoch; and a brother-in-law, Harry Cushman.

Honoring the family’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
