Obituary

Martinez, Manuel G. Jr. Saginaw, Michigan Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at his home. Age 69 years. He was born November 18, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas, the son of the late Aurora P. (Gonzales) and Manuel D. Martinez. He graduated from Saginaw High School and then served with the US Army during the Vietnam War. He married Cayetana Rosita Aguirre on October 27, 1973; she survives him. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption. He enjoyed time spent with his family at Lakes of the North, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. He was a faithful, self-less individual, who was loved and will be missed by many. Surviving are his wife, Cayetana Rosita Martinez; three sons, Manuel G. Martinez III; Mario and Lesli Martinez; Marcus Martinez and his fiance, Briana; three grandsons, Carlos and Mateo Martinez and Trenton Hawke; five sisters and four brothers, Soledad Salazar, Elias and Sylvia Martinez, Robert and Valerie Martinez, Rosa Dorsey, Jose and Irene Martinez, Janie Martinez, Isabel Martinez, Gabriel and Laura Martinez, and Sheila and Jeff Kitchen; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law in the Aguirre family; many nieces, nephews and their families. He was also predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Martin Salazar and James Dorsey. The Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, St. Andrew Church, 612 N. Michigan Avenue. Rev. Fr. Andrew Booms will officiate. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, with military honors under the auspices of VFW Post #1859. His family will receive friends at the church, 612 N.
