Lydia Augusta McCarthy (Willson) of Shields

Passed away on Saturday, October 29^th, 2022, in Saginaw, Michigan, at the age of 85. She was born on September 1^st, 1937, in Saginaw, and was raised by her adoptive parents, the late Esther Steensen and Eugene Tolfree. Lydia graduated from Arthur Hill High School and married Dennis McCarthy in August of 1956, spending over 60 years raising a family together. He preceded her in death on January 7^th, 2018. It was this family that she so cherished; family was the most important thing in Lydia’s life. She enjoyed sharing in the life events and accomplishments of with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She camped with them, attended their ball games, and found any excuse she could to spend time with them. She is remembered as being outspoken but funny in her own way, and once you got past her tough exterior, she had a loving personality with a heart of gold. She was a wonderful mother who would do anything for her family.

Lydia is survived by her children Rick (Sue) McCathy and Roxanne Kosciuszko; grandchildren Brandon (Brooke) Inman, Ryan (Tasha) McCarthy, and Kristin (Philip) Samaniego; great grandchildren Ayden Samaniego, Arianna Samaniego, Noah Inman, Landon Inman, and Vanessa Samaniego; and special niece Sharon Howe; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends.

Lydia was preceded in death by her sons Ronald McCarthy and Timothy McCarthy; and granddaughter Bridgette McCarthy.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of St. Francis Home of Saginaw for the wonderful care they provided to Lydia.

In accordance with Lydia’s wishes, cremation is to take place, with a memorial service celebrating Lydia’s life at 12:00pm on Wednesday, November 9^th, 2022, at W.L. Case & Company, 201 N. Miller Rd., Saginaw, Michigan, with Rev. Rob Richards presiding. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 10:00am until the time of service, with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
