Obituary

Linda Rose Gatzke, age 72, of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025. She was born on July 29, 1953, in Alpena, Michigan, to Antoni and Delphine Gatzke, who preceded her in death.

Linda dedicated 36 years of her life as a telephone operator for GTE, which later became Verizon. During her career, she transferred to three different locations, beginning in Alpena, Michigan, then moving to Alma, Michigan, and ultimately retiring while working in Girard, Pennsylvania. Her strong work ethic, dependability, and commitment were evident throughout her long career.

Linda had a lifelong love for animals. It did not matter what they were—she loved them all. Over the years, she provided a loving home to many dogs, especially Yorkies, Shih Tzus, and mixes of the two breeds. Her compassion for animals was a reflection of her gentle and caring heart.

She shared an especially deep and unconditional bond with her parents, particularly her father. In her final weeks, Linda often spoke of him, fondly sharing stories and cherished memories.

Linda was the proud grandmother of five grandsons and was known as the grandma who never said “no.” Her love was often shown through sweets, and no one ever left her home without candies, cookies, or her famous magic cookie bars. Although she lived most of her life in Michigan, she was never fond of the cold—unless she could enjoy it from inside with a hot cup of tea and biscotti.

She is survived by her son, Ryan Rock, and his wife, Kayla, and grandsons Austin, Jaxon, and Rhett; her daughter, Janelle Gatzke, and grandsons Aden and Elijah. Linda will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.

A family celebration of life will be held at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a local pet shelter, humane society, or similar animal-focused organization, in honor of Linda’s lifelong love for animals.
