Lawrence “Larry” Edward Pietras of Merrill
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, March 10, 2023. Lawrence Edward Pietras was born on November 6, 1956, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Edward and Lorraine (Hintz) Pietras. He met the love of his life, Angela Marie Wood, on August 22, 1978, while attending the Isabella County Fair. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage June 28, 1980; she survives him. Larry worked as a journeyman insulator with Local 47 and retired with over 25 years of loyal and dedicated service. The role of his lifetime was to be the most amazing, loving, and understanding husband, father, and grandfather this world has ever seen. An avid outdoorsman, Larry enjoyed fishing, bobcat hunting at the cabin, and was a proud member of a tightly knit deer camp. His little piece of heaven was spending countless summers at Round Lake with Angie and their lake family. He had a wonderful sense of humor, an extraordinary gift of telling his own or other people’s jokes, and always became the life of any gathering. Throughout his life, Larry was known as the jack-of-all-trades and lovingly embraced his role to fix anything and everything. He loved to watch NASCAR races and the “no good news”. Larry held a special place in his heart for animals, especially his cat, Mable, and his late dachshund, Joey, who was his loyal and faithful co-captain for many years. He will forever be remembered for his selflessness to family and friends, for his passion as a weather enthusiast, for his infamous cooking and barbeque skills, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Angela Pietras of Merrill; three daughters: Christa (Shawn) Felker of Merrill; Nicole (Casey) Cassiday of Midland; Becky (Nathan) Johnson of St. Charles; 11 grandchildren: Kelsey (Hunter), Isaak, Blake, Catlynn, Derick (Karsyn), Logan, Averee, Max, Caleb, Sam, Keirstyn; one great-granddaughter, Elleann; a sister, Helen Wenzel of Ontonagon; a very special mother-in-law, Sally Wood of Mt. Pleasant; four brothers- and three sisters-in-law: Patrick (Jodi) Wood of Mt. Pleasant; Christopher (Stacy) Wood of Mt. Pleasant; Michael Wood of Mt. Pleasant; Gregory (Marci) Wood of Midland; Jennifer (Allen) Moyle of Alma; Diana (Duke) Martinez of Hemlock; Julie (David) Smith of Midland. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lorraine Pietras; sister, Victoria Pietras; brother-in-law, Mark Wood; and his father-in-law, Robert Wood.
