Obituary

Kenneth “Ken” Charles Stresman of Saginaw, formerly of Monroe, Michigan

Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper. He was 91 years old. Kenneth Charles Stresman was born on January 16, 1935, in Pembroke, Ontario, Canada, to the late Fredrick John and Ida Bertha (Bramburger) Stresman. He was a proud 1953 graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Following graduation, Kenneth attended Concordia Junior College Fort Wayne, later attending Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, graduating in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. While studying in Fort Wayne, he met the love of his life, Shirley Marie Koeppen. They fell in love and were united in marriage on August 11, 1957, celebrating 67 years together; she preceded him in death on November 20, 2024. Ken began his teaching career at St. Mark the Evangelist Lutheran School in St. Clair Shores. In 1966 he began teaching at Holy Ghost Lutheran School, serving 31 years until his retirement in 1997. A family man at heart, Kenneth treasured and cherished his role as husband, father, and grandfather. After retiring in 1997, he and Shirley moved to Saginaw, Michigan, to be closer to family. Ken loved sports throughout his life. As a young athlete, he played football, basketball, hockey, ran track, and later played shortstop on the church league softball team. He then became a respected coach for soccer, football, basketball, track and field, and softball. On January 26, 1987, Ken officially became a United States Citizen, a proud moment he held the remainder of his life. He was a longtime and faithful member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hemlock. Ken also enjoyed spending time on the golf course, bowling, and cheering for his favorite team, the University of Michigan. “Go Blue!” A spirited jokester, he will forever be remembered as a man who loved to tease and make others laugh, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.

Surviving are three children: Shelly (Randy) Worden of Sacramento, CA; Kevin (Dianne) Stresman of Vassar; Lori (Gary) Farnum of Bothell, WA; five grandchildren: Kailee (John) Leverso, Kent Farnum, Marissa Worden, Kate (DJ) Peters, Kassie (Sean) O’Brien; six great-grandchildren: Sophie and Axel Peters, Lorrayne and Henry Leverso, Joelle and Leah O’Brien. Also surviving are countless nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Ida Stresman; one brother, Edwin (Beulah) Stresman; and two sisters: Dorothy (Raymond) Marr and Ethel (Albert) Marinelli.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jayla and Jess at Symphony Tri-Cities for all the love and care they provided to Ken and the family.
