Saginaw, Michigan
After a fulfilling and dynamic life, Lanny passed away peacefully on Friday, August 11th at New Hope Valley in Saginaw, MI. Age 86 years. Keith was born, April 6, 1937, in Clarkston, MI to the late Helen (Rasmussen) and Keith Leak. He was married to Mary Ann Abbott for 35 years and they had many adventures together. He was predeceased by Mary Ann, his parents Helen and Keith Leak, and his dear brother Dave Leak. He is survived by his sister Caroline Birtsas, his first wife Sue Gilbert, their three children, Andy Leak, Becky Ralston (Matt), Sarah Holdeman (Scott) and their seven amazing grandchildren; Megan Leak, Simon Leak, Connor Leak, Ellen Ralston, Sam Ralston, Grey Holdeman and Anna Bea Holdeman.
He was a proud graduate of Albion College where he achieved All American Honors on the football team. He then obtained his law degree from Detroit College of Law. He was a practicing attorney and a member of the State Bar of Michigan for 55 years. He practiced for most of his career in Saginaw, MI before moving to Traverse City, MI where he eventually retired. He loved his work and felt privileged to help and support people through their difficult times. Lanny loved Saginaw, served on the Planning Commission, and was a long-standing member of the Northwest Kiwanis Club. He served and volunteered on many civic and community activities.
Lanny had a deep affection for nature and the outdoors and always took notice of the beauty around him. He was an avid bird hunter and rarely missed an opportunity to stroll in the woods or fields with his dogs by his side. Skiing was his #1 passion, and he passed this love to his kids and grandkids. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol for over 50 years and could often be heard singing his favorite tune “Oh What a beautiful morning”….all the way down the mountain.
Lanny made every situation fun! He never met a stranger, and he was a caring friend to everyone. He had the best outlook on life and could put a positive spin on every situation. He told the best Dad jokes around, loved to play practical jokes and was always game for a silly Halloween costume or a goofy wig.
We’d like to thank his friends, relatives, and neighbors for their amazing and unwavering support through Lanny’s journey. We deeply appreciate all the love and care the amazing staff at New Hope Valley gave to Lanny. His zest for life will never be matched. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
