Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023, at her home, with her family at her side; at the age of 99 years.

 

The daughter of the late Lloyd Sr. and Lizzie (Brooks) Newvine, Kate was born on April 29, 1924 in Saginaw, Michigan. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School. Kate married Cy Valliere on July 10, 1943; he preceded her in death on November 6, 1981. She worked at Woolworths, JC Penny, and Dow Corning Medical after many years of loyal and dedicated service. Kate was a member of St. John XXIII Parish, St. Patrick Catholic Church. She proudly worked on the farm and loved yardwork, cutting her grass, especially at the age of 95, and caring for her chickens. Kate loved the book, movie, and any collections for “Gone with the Wind”; the theme of the book and movie is decorated in various rooms throughout her house. She enjoyed ceramics. Above all, Kate cherished the time spent with her family, especially cooking her homemade noodles for Christmas Eve Dinner.

 

Surviving are two sons, one daughter: Cy Jr. (Marilyne) Valliere, Jean “DeeDee” Federspiel (Janet Brambs), Jim (Susan) Valliere; thirteen grandchildren: Cami Valliere (Brian Sheon), Aaron (Angela) Federspiel, Dana Federspiel (Andrew East), Linsey Valliere, Jenny Draves, Tony (Jill) Valliere, Jacob Valliere, Dustin (Megan Woodruff) Valliere, Dominique Porter, Jamie Valliere, Sarah (Boyd) Letts, Jack Valliere, Logan Valliere (Raven Hendrix); twenty-six great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Joan and Dan Dubay. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

 

Besides her husband and her parents, Kate is preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law: Tom and Connie Valliere; two grandchildren: Kristin Valliere, Tomika Anthony; brother and sister-in-law: Lloyd and Viola Newvine; sister: Jean Borchard; and her traveling buddies: Jill Kuflewski, Sharon Fleming, Ruby Kuflewski, Darlene Keel.

 

The family would like to extended a heartfelt thank you to A&D Hospice, especially Shelly, Yolanda, and Vanessa; and to Midland Senior Services, especially Nina; for their kind and compassionate care of Kate.

 

Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Patrick Catholic Church, 4708 Meridian Road, Merrill, Michigan 48637. Rev. Fr. T.J. Fleming will officiate with burial to follow at St. Patrick Cemetery. Friends may visit the family from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023 at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 125 E. Saginaw Street, Merrill, Michigan 48637, and from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday until the time of mass at the church.
