Obituary

Beloved mother and grandmother went to be with her Lord on July 28, 2026, with her family by her side. Age 84 years.

The daughter of the late Anthony and Regina (Born) Maarleveld, Judy was born June 12, 1942, in Bay City, MI. She graduated from Handy High School in Bay City, class of 1960. Judy married Gary Berkompas on June 5, 1965. A true homemaker, Judy found joy in her house fun and welcoming. She had a great sense of humor, always being goofy and making people laugh. Judy had a love of baking, cooking, and gardening. She also had a passion for art and music, especially drawing and playing piano. Judy always had music playing in her house, listening to all genres. Every holiday season she would make beautiful, intricately designed cookies, always making so many that she'd have to give them away. Judy also enjoyed traveling, had a soft spot for kittens, and at the center of her being was her unshakable faith. Above all, Judy adored her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband Gary; three children: Greg Berkompas (d. Sue Wright), Kristi (Michael) Mieske, and Tricia (Randy) Chandler; two grandchildren: Amber Berkompas and Dorian Chandler; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Along with her parents she was predeceased by her sister, Noreen Maarleveld.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, W. L. Case and Company, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Pastor Philip Baerwolf will officiate with burial to follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Monday from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm, as well as Tuesday morning from 11:00 am until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Humane Society.
