Judith Ann Averill

Judith “Judy” Ann Averill of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Covenant HealthCare-Cooper. She was 81 years old. Judith Ann Smith was born on May 27, 1941, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Alfred J. and Florence E. (Hoffman) Smith. She attended Arthur Hill High School. Judy married Charles E. Averill on June 2, 1958; he preceded her in death on November 9, 2016, together they shared 58 years of marriage. She attended Penn State University and received her Associate’s Degree in Dietetics. Judy was employed at Saginaw General Hospital and later with Covenant HealthCare as a Dietician’s Assistant for over 30 years of loyal and dedicated service. She was a longtime member of the former Grace Presbyterian Church. The role of her lifetime was to be a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Judy was fiercely independent and driven, using these skills to become the perfect do-it-yourselfer. She loved to stay active and enjoyed playing Bunko, going to the casino, garage sales, and thrift shopping. Her little piece of heaven was spending time with her family whom she treasured and cherished dearly, remaining a rock of support her entire life. She will forever be remembered for the perfect combination of class and stubbornness, for selflessly caring for those she loved, her ability to be open, frank, and honest when opinions were needed; but most of all for truly living a remarkable life filled with many amazing memories and stories.

Surviving are a son and daughter: Charles Averill II of St. Louis; Connie Averill of Saginaw; five grandchildren: Chuck Averill III, Stacey (Rob) Averill, James Merlone III, Amanda (Gavin) Czymbor, and Marcus (Ashley) Doyle; six great-grandchildren: Carlie and Emalee Clark, Ethan and Aiden Elrod, Bryson and Coltyn Czymbor; one great-great-grandson, Malcom; a sister and brother: Susan Smith of Saginaw; Robert L. Smith of Pinellas Park, FL. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; an infant daughter, Lori Ann Averill; parents, Alfred J. and Florence Smith; a brother, Edward J. Smith; and her much loved fur baby, Kobe.
