Beloved mother and grandmother passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Edgewood Assisted Living, with her family at her side. Age 84 years.
The daughter of the late Bertram “Bert” and Amelia “Mollie” (York) Challis, Joyce was born on November 23, 1940, in Saginaw, Michigan. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School. Joyce furthered her education at Western Michigan University. Joyce married David “Denny” Eurich on August 26, 1961. They shared many wonderful years together. He preceded her in death on June 26, 2011. Joyce was a dedicated educator, teaching preschool and second grade at Jesse Rouse Elementary School. She retired after 30 years of loyal and dedicated service. Joyce was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where she participated in its bell choir. She and her husband enjoyed attending many of the enriching activities offered in the Saginaw area, sharing experiences of model railroad building and wine making. Joyce and Denny enjoyed traveling with special memories of their trip to the Holy Land and Czech Republic. A lover of games, Joyce especially enjoyed playing board games and card games with family and friends. Above all, Joyce cherished the time spent with her family and loved ones, especially at her summer home.
Surviving are her son, Matthew (Julie) Eurich; her daughter, Heather (Vik) Ramamurthy; her grandson, Ash Ramamurthy; fur babies, Patches and Pumpkin. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Besides her husband and her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her brothers and sister, Wally Challis, Richard Challis, and Lorraine Geth.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 600 Court Street, Saginaw, MI 48602. Rev. Kurt Brandon will officiate with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may visit the family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church.
