Joyce Elaine Bhirdo

Joyce Elaine Bhirdo passed away peacefully at age 93 surrounded by her loving family on February 2, 2025, at Bavarian Comfort Care in Bridgeport, MI.

Joyce was born May 10, 1931, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of the late Archie Fenton and Marie Fenton Walters. She graduated from Saginaw High School and attended Saginaw Valley State College later in life.

Joyce had five beautiful children whom she devoted her life to, her family was her whole world.

Joyce enjoyed working at High Life Inn and Rico Tool while raising her family. She faced many obstacles throughout her life. She was strong and tenacious and overcame difficulties. Joyce had numerous talents. She sewed, cross-stitched, baked wedding cakes, and designed worldly Santas. Every project she did was extra special because she did everything with love.

Joyce was a great golfer, loved fishing, hiking, camping, boating, and she even went parasailing at age 80. Joyce loved to travel, going to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Europe where she rode on the Orient Express. She and her husband Ed spent lots of time with family in the Rocky Mountains. 

Joyce is survived by her beloved husband Edward Bhirdo; children, Steve (Connie) Bertram, Jan Bertram, Terry Bertram Breeden, Nanc' Bertram Adams, Randy (Sheila) Bhirdo, Tim Bhirdo, Joni Harshman, Sally (Bruce) Neilson, Lonni Bhirdo, and daughter-in-law, Jan Knipp; sisters, Rosemary Gibson, Frieda (John) Sandavol, and brothers, David (Birdie) Walters, Mike (Janet) Walters; many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Dale Knipp Sr.; sons, Jack Bertram, Dale Knipp Jr., Ken Knipp; daughters-in-law, Becki Knipp and Kimberly Bhirdo; brother, Jerry Walters; and stepfather David Walters.

Keeping with Joyce’s wishes cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will take place later.

The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for the care and guidance of Joyce. We also appreciate the caregiving of Bavarian Comfort Care for their concern about her wellbeing.
