Joseph Tomasek, a cherished figure known for his warmth, wit, and unwavering dedication, passed away on June 2, 2026. He was born on September 16, 1943, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Joseph Tomasek and Louise (Lamonick) Tomasek. Joseph's life was marked by his steadfast commitment to family, community, and his varied interests that enriched the lives of those around him.
Joseph’s professional journey was distinguished by his remarkable tenure at General Motors, Grey Iron Foundry, where he devoted 42 years of diligent service before retiring. His work ethic and reliability earned him great respect among colleagues and friends alike.
Beyond his career, Joseph possessed an extraordinary sense of humor and a sharp wit that endeared him to many. His laughter and funny stories were constant in the lives of his family and friends. No matter what the situation he always had a joke ready and knew how to make everyone laugh. His hilarious stories, quick wit and the ability to bring a smile to peoples faces will forever be missed and cherished.
He loved the outdoors where he spent countless hours hunting and fishing with his children, grandchildren and friends. His love and knowledge for the outdoors will be passed on to generations. Joseph was also a huge sports fan. He coached youth baseball for several years. He was constant presence at his grandchildren’s sporting events being their biggest fan. He looked forward to Tiger baseball and U of M sports. He also took great pride in a large garden he grew every year and found great joy in sharing it with his friends and neighbors.
Joseph was also known for his enjoyment of casino games and his hospitality, frequently entertaining family and friends in the welcoming space of his barn, where stories, laughter, and camaraderie flowed freely.
Joseph was united in marriage with Karen A. (Clark) Tomasek on May 3, 1963. Karen preceded him in death on September 1, 2023. He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law Ethel Clark.
Joseph is lovingly remembered by his four children: Tammy (Roy) Ward of Merrill, Todd Tomasek of Hemlock, Troy (Kathy) Tomasek of Hemlock, and Teri (Kim) Haenlein of Linden. He was a proud grandfather to Kasandra (Larry) Washburn, Alesha (James) Bethke, Caleb Tomasek, Austin Tomasek, Justin (Carly) Tomasek, Tyler Tomasek, Nason (Katie) Haenlein, Kimberly Haenlein, and Dalton Haenlein. His loving spirit lives on through his great-grandchildren: Ava Bethke, Taylor Bethke, Karlie Bethke, Hudson Washburn, Asher Tomasek, and Liam Tomasek. He also held a cherished place in the life of his father-in-law, Richard Clark, brothers-law and sisters in law Randy (Kathy) Clark and Keith (Carol) Clark as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the caring staff at the Roosevelt House.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 N Miller Rd, Saginaw, MI 48609, where friends may visit with the family from 12:00 p.m. until time of the service. His brother-in-law Keith Clark will officiate the service.
