Johnny H. Hubbard

Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026. Age 77 years.

The son of the late Howard and Betty (Fischer) Hubbard was born on December 17, 1948, in Saginaw Michigan. He graduated from Arthur Hill Tech. Johnny proudly served as Lieutenant of the Weapons Infantry in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Johnny retired from the GM Malleable Iron Plant as Millwright after 30 years of dedicated service. He was married Nancy Jean Podvin in 1968; they divorced in 1978. He then married Marguarite “Peggy” Hubbard in 1982; they divorced in 1999.

Johnny's little piece of heaven was found on the track. He had a passion for racing, a love that he passed down to his children and grandchildren. He was an avid NASCAR fan, drove super stock cars from 1971-1996, go-kart racing from 2004-2024, and for the last two years he coached kids racing. Johnny raced at many local tracks, including the Dixie Motor Speedway, Auburn Tri Cities Speedway, and Arthur Raceway

Surviving are four children: Nannette (Mark) Metiva, Mark (Heather) Bastedo, Paulette (Jeff) Jean, Dena (Gabe) Garcia, son-in-law John (Tracy) Dittmar; grandchildren: Amber Hubbard, Jason Mize, Shelby Mize, Ryan Mize, Jordan Jean, Joseph Jean, Jacob Jean, John Dittmar III, Jayden Dittmar, Alyssa Moody, Gracie Moody, Ariana Moody, Ethan Price, Makayla Price, Johnathan Garcia , Isabel Garcia, Tyler Metiva, Mason Metiva, Cassandra Bastedo, and Brooke Bastedo; great-grandchildren: Eli, Aribella, McKenzie, Jojo, Landon, Jenson, Aiden. Brothers: Gary Hubbard, Fred Hubbard, and Robert Hubbard, best friend and neighbor Tom Pol, as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was predeceased by his daughter Johnna Dittmar, sister Joyce Goschke, brothers Roy Hubbard and Kenny Hubbard, and a great-grandchild Liam Bastedo.

Funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, May 29, 2026, at W. L. Case and Company, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Rev. Jim Doran will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens where Military Honors will take place under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post 439. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral chapel from 4:00 pm -7:00 pm on Thursday, May 28, 2026, as well as Friday morning from 10:30 am until the time of service.
