John A. Federspiel, Sr. of Wheeler, Michigan
Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at HealthSource Saginaw. He was 84 years old. John A. Federspiel was born on February 9, 1938, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Carl and Julia (Attenberger) Federspiel. He was a 1957 graduate of Merrill High School. Following graduation, John proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Army in 1958, serving until his honorable discharge in 1961. He married his high school sweetheart, Roberta "Bobbie" L. Clark, on June 19, 1960; she preceded him in death on November 10, 2016. John was the owner and operator of both Ithaca Die Cast and later Wheeler Freight, retiring after many years of loyal and dedicated service. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wheeler. John's little piece of heaven was spending time at "the shack" camp 21 in Newberry, Michigan. As a young man, John enjoyed snowmobiling and later in life enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He will forever be remembered for his sincere honesty, his sense of humor and hard work ethic, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many memories and stories.
Surviving are a daughter and three sons: Lora Schultz, John (Connie) Federspiel, Jr., Rodney (Cheryl) Federspiel, Archie (Mary Jo) Federspiel: 10 grandchildren: Emil (Christina) Neitzke, Eric (Kathy) Neitzke, Michael (Karrie) Neitzke, August (Ashley) Neitzke, Susan Schultz, Eric Morado, Al Morado, Chris Bryant, Jessica Bryant, Joella Fundakowski; four great-grandchildren: Brantley Wilson, Emberly and Charlotte Neitzke, and August Neitzke; brother-in-law, Gorman Wolfe; sister-in-law, Patricia Federspiel. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cynthia Fundkowski; five siblings: Carl Federspiel, Patricia "Patty" Wolfe, Beverly Federspiel, Tom Federspiel, and Bob Federspiel.
A Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 16, 2023, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 10020 E. Monroe Road, Wheeler. Rev. Michael Podeszwa will officiate. Burial and Military Honors will follow at Wheeler Township Cemetery under the auspices of the United States Army and VFW Post 7302. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Dallis to the Rescue or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
