Loving Mother, Grammy & Partner, Joan Elizabeth Ticknor, was called to eternal rest June 20, 2025. With her daughter holding her hand, she passed after a lengthy illness through which her children cared for her.
Daughter of Mary Eleanor (Theisen) & Earl Julius Winters, Joan was born in Saginaw, MI December 4, 1952. A good and faithful servant, Joan worshipped our Lord and found great peace in her faith. Her daily life expressed God’s love. She served as a Medical Specialist in the United States Army caring for wounded soldiers during the Vietnam War. Joan continued serving others through her 29-year career with the American Cancer Society. During retirement, she found great joy & friendship through volunteering for Meals on Wheels. With each visit to her daughter’s home, she eagerly volunteered for her daughter’s nonprofit, ready to help with any project. She facilitated vacation bible schools in both her hometown and while visiting her granddaughter.
Throughout her entire life, she displayed generosity, forgiveness, humility, compassion and unconditional love. Raising her children primarily as a single Mother, she met their every need and was their fiercest cheerleader. Later in life, she treasured time spent with her grandchildren. For Joan, the love of her family was life’s great wealth. Among her favorite songs was Shower the People, and she lived by showering the people she loved with love.
Joan is remembered for her many passions – spending time with her family, gardening, crafting, travelling, cycling, hiking and shopping. She loved the dawn and appreciated every new day. Being in nature brought her happiness.
Surviving are her son, Franky Yeager, daughter, Emily (Yeager) Holty, daughter-in-law, Kristin Yeager, son-in-law, Richard Beyers, three grandchildren, Alexander & Hunter Yeager and Saeda Holty, three bonus grandchildren, Ryan, Christian & Mary Beyers, and partner, Michael McClure.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daniel Ticknor, her parents, and her four siblings.
Joan's family wishes to express gratitude for the kindness of the Covenant at Home and Hoyt Nursing & Rehab Centre staff who served Joan in her final days.
Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00am on Friday, July 18, 2025 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N River Rd, Saginaw, MI 48609. Friends are invited to visit with the family immediately preceding the service from 10:00am to 11:00am. While Joan loved flowers, for those wishing instead to express their condolences through a charitable contribution, memorial gifts may be directed to your local Meals on Wheels program.
